Barnwell Farm Cottages

Places to Stay | Co. Down, Northern Ireland

Barnwell Farm Cottages are located off a quiet country road, in the heart of the Ards Peninsula, 1 mile from Strangford Lough and 2 miles from the Irish Sea coast.

This County Down holiday accommodation is protected from the noise and bustle of everyday life. It is tranquil and relaxing, surrounded by farmland and unspoilt countryside.

The original farmstead was built over 200 years ago.  The farmhouse and courtyard has been sympathetically restored into 7 self catering cottages.  The use of traditional materials and clever design has captured the true atmosphere of a rural country cottage.

Barnwell Farm is a special place for wildlife.  In 2009, the farm won the prestigious UK Nature of Farming Award for their work in attracting and increasing farmland birds.  Elsewhere in the country our familiar farmland wildlife is in decline due to changes in agriculture and land management.  Barnwell Farm operates within the Government agri-environment scheme to encourage all wildlife.

The Linnets, Yellowhammers and Tree Sparrows seen at Barnwell represent the good environmental health of the farm.

To get the most out of your Barnwell visit follow one of the farm trails that explore all the best places to see wildlife.  A short walk up the hill behind the car park gives panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

On a clear day you can see as far as the Isle of Man, Scotland or nearer to home, the Mourne Mountains.
