Blarney Castle

Places to See | Co. Cork, Ireland.

Blarney Castle was built nearly six hundred years ago by one of Ireland’s greatest chieftains, Cormac MacCarthy.

Over the last few hundred years, millions have flocked to Blarney, making it a world landmark and one of Ireland’s top attractions.

There are those who think that you come to Blarney Castle only to see the Stone. But you will leave knowing that the Blarney Stone is only a part of the attraction. We wouldn’t want our virtual visitors to miss out so here’s a small sample of what you can find here.

Take your time to walk through Blarney Castle Gardens where there is a lot more than meets the eye. Diverse surroundings from tranquil to serene, to mystical and magical places, put Blarney Castle on the map of some of the best examples of parks and gardens in Ireland.

Find a touch of danger entwined with the beauty, as you look out for one of the few Poison Gardens in Ireland. It contains a collection of poisonous plants from all over the world. In this garden, the plants are so dangerous and toxic that they may be kept in large cage like structures.

In the heart of the Castle gardens you will find the magnificent sight of the Fern Garden. You may find yourself stretching your neck to look at 204 inch high Dicksonia antartica which happens to be the tallest kind of its fern in Ireland.

Make a point of visiting the Rock Close. This place has an aura of magic and mystique with surpises at every turn and telling a story of centuries past. Landscaped around many timeless features from the eighteenth century it is a romantic spot where nature and art have gone hand in hand.
