Magherintemple Lodge

Places to Stay | Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.

The Irish Landmark Trust have completed conservation work on Magherintemple Lodge, a wonderful place to stay in the seaside town of Ballycastle in Co. Antrim.

Magherintemple is interesting not only because of its architectural history but also because of its historical importance as the seat of the Casement family. The Gatelodge was built in the Scottish Baronial style in 1874. The gate lodge provides a fitting entrance to the estate as it echoes the style of the main house. It is of a simple three bay construction with a steeply pitched roof with sawtooth cresting.

True to the Trust’s philosophy, as little as possible has been altered. All the existing rooms in the lodge remain as they are and have been transformed into a comfortable living room and two double bedrooms. The existing yard walls are retained and a bathroom and kitchen/dining area inserted behind them.

The purpose of The Irish Landmark Trust is to save buildings of architectural merit or historical importance that would otherwise be lost forever. The Trust undertakes the conservation & restoration of these buildings and sympathetically converts them into self-catering holiday homes thus ensuring their future survival.
