Welcome home the Clipper Around the World Race


From 21-29 June 2014 tens of thousands of people are expected in Londonderry for a nine-day maritime festival to welcome home the Clipper Around the World Race.

The City will be alive for the homecoming festival welcoming the 12 strong fleet of Clipper 70 yachts into the Foyle including the Derry~Londonderry~Doire entry skippered this time by the City’s own Sean McCarter accompanied by his LegenDerry crew.

Whet your appetite aboard the LegenDerry Maritime Festival, whether you are a novice sailor, a lover of food or coming for the world class music, this event will enable families, visitors, and nautical enthusiasts enjoy a host of exciting and diverse maritime activities from visiting yachts and boats. Come meet the crews of the 70 foot Clipper yachts as they dock on the Foyle and discover the fascinating stories of the city with a series of exhibitions and creative heritage areas along the way.

The Legenderry Maritime Festival began on Saturday, and saw the quayside transformed into a festive village with boats, music and a continental market. The yachts have arrived in the River Foyle and Derry is the penultimate stopover on the world’s longest ocean race, which left London in September.

About 120,000 people visited Derry in 2012 as it hosted its first clipper stopover event in 2012 for the Derry-Londonderry homecoming. We visited to take a quick 360° photo.
